The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), has launched an investigation into reports of civilian casualties following an air operation on Sunday, January 25, 2026, in Kurigi Village, Kontokoro District, Mariga Local Government Area, Niger State.
In a statement on Wednesday, NAF’s Director of Public Relations, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, expressed concern over the reported deaths and injuries, describing the allegations as serious.
He reiterated that protecting non-combatants remains central to all Air Force operations.
Ejodame said a Civilian Harm Accident and Investigation team has been activated to carry out a thorough probe, guided by principles of accountability, responsibility, and transparency.
He assured that the NAF would take responsibility where necessary and implement corrective measures based on the findings.
He added that the Air Force’s Civilian Harm Mitigation and Response, Action Plan has been applied consistently over the past year, embedding civilian protection into all stages of operations.
Training, operational procedures, and safeguards have also been strengthened to minimise harm to civilians nationwide.
“The NAF assures Nigerians of its commitment to professionalism, restraint, and safeguarding innocent lives while defending the nation,” Ejodame said.
