The Federal Government plans to engage retired military personnel to reclaim ungoverned spaces and strengthen national security.
The announcement followed the inauguration of an 18-member committee by the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), on Tuesday in Abuja.
The committee will focus on reclaiming ungoverned areas and repositioning the Nigerian Legion corps of Commissionaires and Veterans.
A statement by the Ministry’s Deputy Director of Information, Enderline Chukwu, noted that Musa was represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Richard Pheelangwa.
The Defence Minister said the initiative aims to empower veterans to live dignified and productive lives after retirement.
It also seeks to address structural challenges that have limited the defence community’s contributions to national development while boosting security and economic activity in previously ungoverned areas.
