Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged Nigerians to hold President Bola Tinubu accountable over repeated national grid collapses and unfulfilled power sector promises.
In a statement on his verified X handle on Wednesday, Obi reacted to the latest grid failure, the second this year, noting that 2026 has barely begun.
He recalled Tinubu’s 2022 campaign pledge to deliver stable electricity within four years, warning that persistent outages contradict that promise.
Obi said the grid reportedly collapsed about 12 times in 2025, describing the trend as unacceptable.
He also criticised the President’s ongoing foreign trip to Turkey, contrasting its over 120,000MW power generation with Nigeria’s struggles despite its larger population.
The former Anambra State governor urged Tinubu to focus on pressing domestic challenges and warned Nigerians against normalising poor governance.
He called for collective action to demand accountability, stressing that persistent power failures continue to worsen hardship and undermine national dignity.
