The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has increased petrol prices at its retail stations in Lagos and Abuja. The new rates are ₦835 per litre in Lagos and ₦839 per litre in Abuja, officials confirmed on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
The hike reflects changes in ex-depot costs and global fuel trends, continuing the volatility seen in Nigeria’s deregulated market. At several NNPCL outlets, attendants updated pumps to the new prices, prompting concerns from motorists and commercial drivers over rising transport and goods costs.
Energy analysts linked the increase to upstream and refining developments, including higher gantry prices at Dangote Petroleum Refinery following the end of a temporary festive price support programme, which typically influence retail rates across both state-owned and private fuel stations.
