Lagos lawyer Liborous Oshoma has criticised Nigeria’s governance as a “feeding-bottle system” following Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke’s demand for over ₦130 billion in withheld local government allocations.
Oshoma argued that withholding statutory funds undermines federalism and grassroots development, treating local councils like dependants rather than autonomous governments.
Governor Adeleke said the Federal Government has withheld allocations to Osun’s 30 local councils since February 2025, crippling governance and forcing the state to cover salaries for teachers, health workers, traditional councils, and retirees.
The lawyer warned that such practices weaken democracy and service delivery, calling for strict adherence to constitutional provisions.
Adeleke has appealed for urgent intervention, stressing the need to restore constitutional order and effective local governance.
