Nigeria’s shot put star, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, opened his 2026 season in style, winning the men’s event at the Orlen Cup in Łódź, Poland, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver meeting.
Enekwechi dominated with a best throw of 20.82m, ahead of Romania’s Andrei Toader (20.55m) and Serbia’s Armin Sinančević (19.93m). Poland’s Szymon Mazur and Italy’s Nick Ponzio rounded out the top five.
The victory marked a breakthrough for Enekwechi, who had finished second at the Orlen Cup in 2024 and 2025. A two-time African champion, African Games winner (2019, 2023), and 2018 Commonwealth Games silver medallist, he confirmed his status as Nigeria’s leading shot putter.
His performance signals a strong start to 2026, building momentum ahead of major continental and international competitions.
