The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has released the names of 16 military personnel facing court-martial over an alleged plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The disclosure came in a Monday statement by Director of Defence Information, Major-General Edward Buba, following investigations by a Special Investigative Panel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria. The panel found that the personnel violated military laws, including acts prejudicial to discipline and national security.
Major-General Buba emphasized that the case is a disciplinary matter, not politically motivated, and affirmed the military’s loyalty to the Constitution and the democratically elected government.
The indicted officers include personnel from the Army, Navy, and Air Force: Brig.-Gen. Musa Abubakar Sadiq; Col. M.A. Ma’aji; Lt.-Cols. S. Bappah, A.A. Hayatu, Dangnan, M. Almakura; Majors A.J. Ibrahim, M.M. Jiddah, M.A. Usman, D. Yusuf, I. Dauda; Captains I. Bello, A.A. Yusuf; Lt. S.S. Felix; Lt.-Cmdr. D.B. Abdullahi (Navy); and Sqn. Ldr. S.B. Adamu (Air Force).
The alleged coup plot first surfaced in October 2025, when arrests of several officers were announced. After months of investigation, the DHQ said there are sufficient grounds for prosecution through military judicial channels.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, apolitical service, and safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy, warning that acts of indiscipline or subversion will not be tolerated.
