The Kano State Government has projected that between 600,000 and 700,000 babies will be born in the state in 2026.
The projection, based on a 3.5 per cent population growth rate from the 2006 census, was disclosed over the weekend in Kano by the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda.
Speaking at the maiden convocation of the Sardauna College of Health Sciences and Technology, Dr. Nagoda warned that the rising population could further strain the state’s health sector, noting a current shortfall of about 4,000 professional health workers.
He urged training institutions to strengthen practical training and revealed that the state plans to recruit additional health personnel for deployment to underserved local government areas, including Doguwa, Rogo and Sumaila.
