The Edo State Government has commenced the issuance of allocation letters for the return of 2,950 plots of land at Oke-Oroma Community in Benin City, bringing an end to a prolonged land dispute affecting about 1,550 property owners.
Speaking to journalists on Friday, the Commissioner for Land and Housing, Yakubu Musa, said the exercise followed the approval of Governor Monday Okpebholo and was preceded by a one-week verification of affected property owners.
He noted that the process restores hope to residents whose properties were demolished on September 21, 2022.
Musa said the initiative underscores the government’s commitment to resolving the dispute and addressing the grievances of those impacted.
Beneficiaries, including Adebayo Ogenelkhemeh, Onose Onyegbulem, and Efe Ewemade, thanked the state government, describing Governor Okpebholo as a restorer of hope for keeping his campaign promises.
The earlier demolitions had sparked political tensions between the APC and PDP in Edo State.
