The Federal Government has emphasised the role of effective communication in delivering a credible, transparent and internationally acceptable national census.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated this in Abuja on Wednesday while receiving the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr. Aminu Yusuf, during a courtesy visit.

Idris said accurate population data is vital for national planning and development, stressing that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is committed to conducting a census that meets global standards. He noted that the exercise would prioritise credibility, legality and due process, adding that a presidential proclamation remains the lawful trigger for the census.

He assured the NPC of the ministry’s support, including that of the National Orientation Agency, Nigerian Television Authority, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Voice of Nigeria and the News Agency of Nigeria, to drive public mobilisation once a census date is announced.

Earlier, Yusuf commended the ministry’s support and said the commission remains operationally ready, with logistics, ICT systems and personnel being continuously refined. He called for sustained access to government media platforms to build public trust and enhance participation in the census and civil registration processes.
