Nigeria’s Super Eagles earned N3.56bn after finishing third at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, sealing the bronze medal with a 4-2 penalty shootout win over Egypt in Casablanca.
The playoff ended goalless in regulation time, with goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali starring by saving two penalties as Nigeria secured their ninth third-place finish at the tournament.
Moses Simon, Akor Adams, Alex Iwobi and Ademola Lookman converted for Nigeria, while Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush missed for Egypt.
Senegal were crowned champions after edging hosts Morocco 1-0 after extra time in the final in Rabat. Pape Gueye scored the decisive goal early in extra time.
AFCON 2025 prize money reached a record high, with CAF awarding $10m (N14.23bn) to the champions. Morocco received $4m (N5.69bn) as runners-up, Nigeria earned $2.5m (N3.56bn), while fourth-placed Egypt took home $1.3m (N1.85bn).
CAF President Patrice Motsepe said the increased rewards reflect efforts to strengthen Africa’s premier football competition.
