The Ijebu Youth Solidarity Front (IYSF) has warned against attempts to undermine the Awujale selection process through propaganda and smear campaigns.

In a statement signed by Olabanjo Shobiye, the group alleged that some aspirants, fearing defeat, were plotting to discredit the process by accusing kingmakers of collecting bribes.

“We have been informed of a subterranean plan by one of the aspirants to indict the kingmakers and cast aspersions on the highly sacred Awujale selection process,” the statement said, stressing that the group would resist any effort to desecrate Ijebu culture and traditions.

The IYSF noted that the kingmakers were committed to producing a credible and “stainless” monarch and urged all parties to allow the process to proceed without distractions.

It also cautioned against desperation and manipulation, calling for calm and respect for due process.

The group further appealed to those behind the alleged propaganda to desist, warning that attempts to derail the process would not be tolerated.

Meanwhile, Prince Abimbola Onabanjo, one of the aspirants, has been identified as a leading contender in the race, with observers citing his popularity, entrepreneurial background and community involvement as factors working in his favour.
