The Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Saliu, has died at the age of 75.
Born in 1950 in Ilorin, Kwara State, the late cleric devoted his life to Islamic scholarship and service, earning widespread respect within the Ilorin Emirate and beyond.
Sheikh Saliu was appointed the 12th Chief Imam of the Ilorin Emirate in 1983 and served in the role for over four decades. He was renowned for his deep knowledge of Islamic teachings, moral leadership, and commitment to peace, unity and religious tolerance.
His passing marks the end of an era of stable religious leadership in Ilorin, leaving a lasting legacy of faith, wisdom and community cohesion.
