The Deputy President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, has urged President Bola Tinubu to pardon the detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), leader, Nnamdi Kanu, as a strategic step toward securing re-election in 2027.

Isiguzoro said a pardon would help ease tensions in the South-East and weaken separatist agitation ahead of the polls.

He also advised the President to suspend the new tax law, implement the 2014 National Conference report, fast-track major infrastructure projects and consider creating additional states to broaden political support.

According to him, several interest groups across the country are aligning against Tinubu’s second-term ambition, warning that unresolved grievances could fuel opposition momentum.

“A pardon for Nnamdi Kanu before 2027, preferably on June 12 or October 1 will calm the South-East and deny the opposition a major mobilisation tool,” Isiguzoro said.

He described the implementation of the 2014 Confab report as a potential “game changer” and stressed that visible infrastructure projects and inclusive reforms would be critical ahead of the highly competitive 2027 election.
