The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has ruled out any immediate merger with other opposition parties, saying discussions are still at an early stage and have not matured into a formal alliance.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, said the PDP currently has an understanding with other opposition groups based on a shared goal of challenging the ruling party, which he noted won the last election with less than 40 per cent of the vote.
“As for a merger, the time hasn’t matured. We are still at an embryonic stage of collaboration,” Ememobong said during an appearance on AIT’s Democracy Today in Abuja.
On security, he warned that insecurity is becoming normalised across the country, describing the situation as grim and calling for comprehensive and sustainable solutions rather than temporary measures.
Ememobong’s remarks come amid deep internal divisions within the PDP, which is currently split into two rival factions following leadership disputes, defections and prolonged court battles that have weakened the party’s national influence.
