Manchester United claimed a morale-boosting 2-0 victory over Manchester City at Old Trafford on Saturday, dealing a blow to their rivals’ Premier League title ambitions.

After a goalless first half, United took control following the break and went ahead in the 65th minute when Bryan Mbeumo finished a swift counter-attack.

The hosts sealed the win in the 76th minute as Patrick Dorgu converted after good work from substitute Matheus Cunha, leaving City with no way back.

City dominated possession but failed to create clear chances, with United’s defence holding firm to secure a clean sheet against Pep Guardiola’s side.

The win marked a positive outing for United under interim manager Michael Carrick, while City suffered a costly setback in their push near the top of the table.
