The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced plans to begin enforcement actions next week against property owners in Abuja who are in default of statutory land charges.

The decision was taken at the first FCTA Executive Council meeting of 2026, presided over by FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Briefing journalists, the Director of Land Administration, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, said the exercise would target defaulters on ground rents, Certificate of Occupancy payments and land use conversion charges.

He said affected properties would be sealed and land titles revoked to compel compliance, noting that the enforcement would be wider than last year’s exercise and cover Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the city.

The action will also focus on properties converted from residential to commercial use without meeting statutory requirements.

Nwankwoeze said several notices had been issued through the media, but compliance remained low.

He stressed that the process would be automated and applied uniformly to government agencies, corporate bodies and private individuals.

He urged property owners to clear outstanding obligations at the Abuja Geographic Information Systems or the Land Administration Department to avoid sanctions.
