Former Ekiti State Governor, Segun Oni, has defected from the Social Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress, registering as a member at his country home in Ifaki Ekiti.
The Coordinator of the APC electronic registration exercise in Ekiti, Adesola Adedayo, confirmed the development on Monday in Ado Ekiti, describing the move as a major boost to the ruling party.
Adedayo, who is also the Commissioner for Youth Development, said Oni registered on Sunday, adding that his defection has strengthened the party’s base and given fresh momentum to the ongoing e registration exercise.
He noted that Oni, a former PDP governor between 2007 and 2010 and SDP governorship candidate in the 2022 election, remains a strong grassroots politician whose return to the APC signals a significant political realignment ahead of the 2026 Ekiti governorship election and the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the development will further energise the APC at the grassroots and consolidate its structures across the state.
