The National Youth Service Corps has announced plans to introduce reforms aimed at tackling emerging national challenges and strengthening its role in Nigeria’s development.
The Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olusegun Olufemi Nafiu, disclosed this on Monday at the opening of the 2026 NYSC Annual Management Conference in Jos, Plateau State. He said the scheme has moved beyond symbolic nation building to focus on measurable and sustainable impact.
Nafiu stressed that the priority is now on effectively deploying the skills and energy of young Nigerians to address security, demographic and technological challenges. He urged participants to review operations and propose innovative ideas to improve service delivery.
Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, represented by his deputy Josephine Piyo, praised the scheme and announced the renovation of the NYSC Orientation Camp in Mangu, with additional land allocated for agricultural activities.
The conference is expected to generate practical solutions to enhance the NYSC’s contribution to national development.
