The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has warned Nigerians over the recall of Mivacron and Nimbex injections due to safety concerns linked to possible quality defects.
In a statement on Monday, NAFDAC said the affected products were manufactured by Aspen Pharmacare Asia Limited, with the recall triggered by issues raised by the Hong Kong Department of Health.
The agency disclosed that one batch of Mivacron Injection 0.2 per cent and five batches of Nimbex Injection 2mg/mL are involved. It explained that investigations revealed deficiencies in the manufacturer’s manual visual inspection process, raising concerns that glass particles in some ampoules may not have been adequately detected.
The injections, which contain mivacurium and cisatracurium, are prescription drugs commonly used as adjuncts to general anaesthesia.
NAFDAC urged healthcare professionals and the public to report any suspected substandard or unsafe medicines to its offices nationwide or via its e-reporting platforms.
