The biggest shock came at Moss Rose, where non-league Macclesfield stunned defending champions Crystal Palace 2-1 in one of the competition’s most remarkable upsets.
At St James’ Park, Newcastle United edged Bournemouth after a thrilling 3-3 draw that went to penalties. The Magpies progressed 7-6 in the shootout, with goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale playing a key role.
Tottenham Hotspur suffered another setback, losing 2-1 at home to Aston Villa despite scoring first, while Everton exited after a 1-1 draw with Sunderland ended in a penalty defeat.
Elsewhere, Chelsea and Manchester City both recorded comfortable victories to move into the next round, as the FA Cup once again lived up to its reputation for unpredictability.
