Former Senator Shehu Sani has urged Nigerian youths and middle-aged citizens to move beyond social media activism and actively participate in politics, saying online debates alone cannot bring meaningful change.
In a series of posts on X on Saturday, Sani challenged those in their 30s, 40s and 50s who dominate Facebook, X and Instagram discussions to disengage from comment sections and commit to party politics and elections.
He noted that many young Nigerians already occupy elective offices, while others remain confined to online commentary. According to him, real political influence comes from participation in party structures, grassroots mobilisation and contesting elections.
Sani dismissed claims that young Nigerians are politically active simply because of their online presence, describing such narratives as misleading. He stressed that governance can only be changed through physical involvement in the political process.
Addressing concerns over funding, the former lawmaker advised aspiring politicians not to be discouraged by lack of money, noting that many established leaders began their political journeys with limited resources.
