A young mother of three, identified as Ganiyat, has been stabbed to death by her husband in River Valley Estate, Ogun State, in a tragic incident linked to domestic violence.
Ganiyat was attacked inside her home on Thursday, January 8, 2026. Neighbours said she was repeatedly stabbed and bled profusely before being rushed to Gifted Hands Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at about 8:30 p.m. Doctors confirmed that severe knife wounds, including injuries near her lungs, led to her death.
Witnesses said the attack occurred in the presence of the couple’s children. Despite her injuries, Ganiyat reportedly managed to stagger towards the gate while neighbours responded to her screams and rushed her to the hospital. She was said to have insisted she had done nothing wrong before losing consciousness.
Residents described the suspect, Mr. Ayoola Ayanwale, as a serial wife beater. They alleged that prior to the stabbing, he attempted to force his wife to ingest a poisonous substance, an act she resisted.
Hours after the incident, Ayanwale was found in an open field in Sotubo, Ogun State, gasping for breath. He was later confirmed dead in what police suspect to be suicide. Items recovered at the scene included a bottle containing a suspected liquid substance, two mobile phones, a voter’s card and an ATM card.
Confirming the development, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the command was aware of the incident and would issue a detailed statement.
The incident has left three children orphaned, reigniting concerns over the rising cases of domestic violence in the country.
