Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has said Rivers State cannot be delivered for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections without electoral manipulation, insisting that neither Nyesom Wike nor Governor Siminalayi Fubara has the capacity to do so under the current political crisis.
Fayose made the remark on Channels Television’s Politics Today while commenting on the escalating rift between Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and Fubara, which has led to impeachment moves against the governor by the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to Wike.
He described politics as a game of power, warning that alliances alone cannot guarantee electoral outcomes. Fayose argued that despite Wike’s influence and Fubara’s incumbency, neither can fairly secure Rivers votes for Tinubu.
The former governor dismissed claims that the crisis is solely about Tinubu’s re-election, saying both Wike and Fubara would ultimately support the President. He added that politicians often seek public sympathy only when they act outside constitutional provisions.
Rivers State has remained politically unstable since the collapse of the 2023 peace deal brokered by Tinubu between Wike and Fubara, a breakdown that later led to the declaration of a state of emergency in March 2025.
Fayose urged reconciliation between both camps, saying unity was crucial to stabilising the state and safeguarding its political future ahead of the 2027 elections.
