The Nigerian Army has warned the public to beware of fake social media accounts allegedly operated by or linked to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, and posted on the Army’s official X handle, the military said fraudsters have increasingly created fake online accounts in the name of the COAS for criminal purposes.

The Army clarified that the Chief of Army Staff does not own or operate any official social media account on any platform, urging the public to disregard any account claiming to represent him.

It cautioned that such fake accounts are often used to defraud unsuspecting individuals, solicit money and spread false information.

The Army advised the public not to interact with or share content from such accounts, noting that investigations are ongoing to identify and prosecute those behind them.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity.
