The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has raised the alarm over the resurgence of deadly “one chance” syndicates in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), following the killing of a lawyer and a nurse in separate incidents.
The victims, former NBA Abuja Branch Treasurer, Princess Chigbo Mediatrix, and a healthcare worker, Chinemerem Pascalina Chuwumeziem, were reportedly abducted by criminals posing as commercial drivers, with their bodies later dumped in different parts of the city.
NBA President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, described the incidents as a security emergency, warning that the attacks signal a coordinated and dangerous trend rather than isolated crimes.
While the FCT Police Command, through its spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh, said investigations were ongoing, the NBA urged the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, to take urgent and decisive action to dismantle the syndicates and restore safety to the nation’s capital.
