At least six people died and two others were injured in a road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near the NASFAT junction in Ogun State on Thursday, January 1, 2026.
The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said the crash, involving a Mazda commercial bus and a Volvo truck, occurred around 2:36 p.m. Preliminary investigations pointed to excessive speeding as the likely cause.
Eyewitnesses reported the collision happened before emergency responders arrived, with some injured passengers rushed to hospital by passersby. Others were treated at Famobis Hospital in Lotto, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to a morgue.
FRSC officials, supported by police and TRACE personnel, conducted rescue, recovery, and traffic clearance operations. Corps Commander Akinwumi O. Fasakin has ordered a full investigation into the incident.
Authorities urged motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits and traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies on Nigeria’s highways.
