Former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital following treatment for injuries sustained in a road accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

In a statement on Wednesday, Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, said Joshua had been “deemed clinically fit to recuperate from home.”

The accident occurred on Monday when a Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and members of his team rammed into a stationary truck along the expressway.

Tragically, two of his close associates, Kevin Latif Ayodele, his personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach lost their lives in the crash.

Joshua sustained minor injuries and was treated at Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, before being discharged on Wednesday afternoon.

Omotoso added that the boxer and his mother later visited a Lagos funeral home where the remains of the deceased associates are laid, to pay their last respects.

He also conveyed the appreciation of Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for the public’s outpouring of sympathy and support following the incident.
