Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has been named the fifth highest goalscorer in the world for 2025, after netting 46 goals in 52 appearances for club and country, according to ESPN.

The 27-year-old Super Eagles forward finished behind Kylian Mbappé with 66 goals, Harry Kane with 60 goals, Erling Haaland with 57 goals, and Kevin Hernandez of Puerto Rico SSC with 48 goals.

Osimhen shares the same tally as Lionel Messi but achieved it in fewer games.

Osimhen scored nine goals in nine international fixtures for Nigeria this year, including a recent strike against Tunisia in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

At club level, he emerged as the top scorer in the Turkish Super Lig, helping Galatasaray secure both the league and cup titles last season.

Other players in the top ten include Vangelis Pavlidis of Benfica and Greece with 45 goals, Guilherme Bissoli of Buriram United and Brazil with 44 goals, Cristiano Ronaldo of Al Nassr and Portugal with 41 goals, and Jorge Rivera of Metropolitan FA and Puerto Rico with 40 goals.

Osimhen’s remarkable scoring record underlines his growing reputation as one of football’s elite marksmen and a key figure for Nigeria on the international stage.
