The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has announced plans to mobilize students across the country to protest the implementation of the Tax Reform Law, scheduled to take effect from January 1, 2026.

In a statement yesterday, NANS National President, Comrade Olushola Oladoja, criticized the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), for proceeding with the law despite unresolved issues in the gazetted version.

Oladoja accused the government of ignoring necessary stakeholder engagement and public sensitization.

“The decision to implement the Tax Reform Law without addressing constitutional and transparency concerns is not only unfortunate but dangerous,” the statement read.

NANS argued that the move disregards democratic principles and the role of Nigerians as the sovereign in a constitutional democracy.

The student body has declared Tuesday, January 14, 2026, as a National Day of Action, with a peaceful march to the Presidential Villa in Abuja, starting from Unity Fountain.

NANS called on all campus chapters, state joints, and zonal coordinators to mobilize for the protest.

NANS’ demands are clear: the immediate suspension of the Tax Reform Law until all legal, constitutional, and public engagement issues are resolved. The association emphasized its commitment to democracy and lawful resistance against policies imposed without transparency and consent.
