Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has accused the Federal Government of deploying the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to harass him and members of his administration over his refusal to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mohammed made the allegation on Wednesday while signing the 2026 appropriation bill into law. The governor, who also chairs the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Governors’ Forum, said the EFCC’s actions amounted to political persecution rather than genuine anti-corruption enforcement.
He claimed that one of his commissioners is currently in EFCC custody and that his own name was mentioned in court proceedings despite his constitutional immunity as a sitting governor.
The governor maintained that he would not be pressured into joining the APC, accusing the APC-led federal government of misusing institutions, including the EFCC and the courts, to intimidate opposition figures.
Mohammed said he had endured the situation in the interest of peace but warned that continued harassment could force him to speak out further.
The Federal Government has yet to respond to the allegations, though it has previously denied targeting opposition politicians in its anti-corruption drive.
