The African Democratic Congress (ADC), coalition says it is determined to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election, following the defection of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Phrank Shaibu, Special Adviser on Public Communications to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, made the claim on Wednesday, a day after Obi officially joined the ADC at an event in Enugu.

Shaibu said Obi’s defection has strengthened the opposition coalition and positioned it as a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Obi, who described his move as part of efforts to unite the opposition ahead of 2027, pledged to resist electoral malpractice and work towards rescuing Nigeria.

Atiku Abubakar also welcomed Obi into the ADC, describing the defection as a major boost for opposition unity and coalition building.

However, the APC has dismissed the coalition’s chances, questioning Obi’s political consistency and the ADC’s ability to unseat the incumbent government.

The development signals a significant realignment as political actors intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.
