Former Rivers State Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said that endorsement by President Bola Tinubu will not automatically secure the Rivers State governorship ticket for any aspirant.

Wike made the remark while addressing party stakeholders, stressing that the governorship race in the state would be decided through established party processes and internal democracy, not personal influence or presidential backing.

He said that while President Tinubu is a respected leader whose views carry weight, no individual can impose a candidate on Rivers State, adding that aspirants must earn acceptance through loyalty, hard work and grassroots support.

Wike cautioned politicians against assuming that closeness to powerful figures guarantees electoral success, noting that Rivers politics remains competitive and issue-driven.

His comments come amid growing political realignments as preparations begin for the next governorship election in the state.
