Suspected thugs on Sunday allegedly assaulted the Chief Executive Officer of Hosamudia Farm, Don Pedro Obaseki, in Benin City, Edo State.

Obaseki, a cousin of former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, was reportedly attacked at Uwa Primary School, where he had gone to play football.

A video circulating on social media shows him being harassed and stripped by the attackers before he was taken to the Oba of Benin’s Palace.

Eyewitnesses said the suspects led him to the palace gate and forced him to kneel, claiming they had brought an Oghion, an enemy of the Oba to the palace.

Palace chiefs later intervened, explaining that the Oba was on his way to the Holy Arousa Cathedral for a thanksgiving service marking the end of the Igue festival. The chiefs eventually took Obaseki into the palace.

The motive for the attack and the identity of the suspects remain unclear as at the time of filing this report.
