Nigeria’s 3-2 victory over Tunisia on Saturday sealed a place in the round of 16 at the AFCON in Morocco, but defensive lapses have raised concerns.
Goals from Victor Osimhen, Wilfried Ndidi and Ademola Lookman put the Super Eagles in control before two late Tunisian goals exposed weaknesses at the back.
Statistics firm Opta Nigeria noted that the Super Eagles have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last five matches and have conceded in each of their last four AFCON games.
Fans were also critical, describing the defence as the team’s weak link, while goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali came under scrutiny despite positive attacking displays.
Nigeria will face Uganda in the round of 16 on Tuesday at 5pm, with attention now on tightening the defence.
