Manchester United claimed a narrow but important 1–0 victory over Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Boxing Day, with a stunning first-half strike proving the difference.
The decisive moment came in the 24th minute when Patrick Dorgu fired home a powerful volley from outside the box after a defensive lapse by Newcastle, scoring his first goal for the Red Devils.
Despite missing key players, including captain Bruno Fernandes, United started brightly and held their shape well. Newcastle dominated much of the second half and came close to equalising, most notably when Lewis Hall hit the crossbar, but the visitors were denied by United’s disciplined defence.
The win lifts Manchester United to fifth place on the Premier League table with 29 points, boosting their push for European qualification. Newcastle remain 11th, left to rue missed chances after a strong late showing.
