Nigeria’s Super Eagles opened their AFCON 2025 campaign with a 2-1 victory over Tanzania’s Taifa Stars in a Group C encounter at the Complexe Sportif de Fes on Tuesday.
The Eagles dominated early exchanges and took the lead in the 36th minute when Semi Ajayi headed home Alex Iwobi’s cross. Tanzania equalised shortly after the restart through Charles M’Mombwa.
Nigeria regained the advantage in the 55th minute as Ademola Lookman struck from outside the box to seal the win.
Despite late pressure from Tanzania, goalkeeper Daniel Nwabali and the defence held firm to secure all three points.
The result puts Nigeria top of Group C ahead of the Tunisia versus Uganda fixture. The Super Eagles will next face Tunisia on Saturday, December 27.
