Saidu Aliyu Mohammed has formally assumed office as the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), following a leadership handover from the outgoing boss, Farouk Ahmed.
The Authority disclosed this in a statement on its official X handle on Tuesday, describing the transition as a reflection of its commitment to continuity, accountability and sound corporate governance.
The handover ceremony, attended by Executive Directors, senior management and staff, featured the symbolic transfer of official documents and responsibilities, in line with public service rules and best practices.
Ahmed resigned last week ahead of the expiration of his tenure in 2026. He was appointed in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari to head the Authority established under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021.
President Bola Tinubu subsequently nominated Mohammed as his successor, a move that received the approval of the National Assembly.
The leadership change comes as the Federal Government intensifies reforms in the midstream and downstream petroleum sector to improve energy security, stabilise supply and attract investment.
The Authority said Mohammed’s appointment is expected to sustain ongoing reforms and strengthen regulatory oversight across the sector.
