The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has urged Nigerians to celebrate Christmas with caution, reflection, and a focus on human life, especially amid persistent security and economic challenges across the country.

In a statement released on December 24, 2025, CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh emphasized that while Christmas is a time of worship, joy, and gratitude for the birth of Jesus Christ, safety must remain a priority.

He encouraged church leaders to adopt practical measures, such as holding services in safer locations or limiting congregation sizes in areas with limited security presence.

Archbishop Okoh also called on law enforcement agencies to bolster security around churches during the festive season and stressed the importance of collaboration between religious institutions and authorities to ensure peaceful celebrations.

Acknowledging the struggles of Nigerians affected by violence, displacement, and hardship, the CAN president appealed for national unity, compassion, and justice, urging citizens to work together in building a more peaceful society.

He concluded by praying that the festive season brings hope, joy, and renewed faith to all Nigerians and that the New Year ushers in lasting peace and healing.

CAN’s message serves as a reminder that the spirit of Christmas is not only about celebration but also about responsibility, care, and vigilance for one another.
