Eyewitnesses said thick smoke billowed from the multi storey building, causing panic among traders, occupants and passersby in the busy commercial area.
The cause of the fire was yet to be determined as of press time.
Officials of the Lagos State Fire Service were quickly deployed to the scene to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings housing shops, offices and residences.
Security operatives also cordoned off the area to allow firefighters unhindered access amid heavy traffic.
