Normal traffic flow has been restored on the Abuja-Lokoja Expressway following a weekend disruption caused by a standoff between truck drivers and military personnel, the Minister of Works, David Umahi, has said.

The incident triggered heavy congestion after truck drivers reportedly blocked part of the road over the smashing of a truck’s windscreen, leaving motorists stranded for hours, especially during the festive period.

In a statement on Sunday, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Works, Mohammed A. Ahmed, said Umahi ordered the immediate reopening of completed sections of the highway and the deployment of measures to ease traffic.

He noted that the directive, implemented on Sunday, December 21, 2025, led to the decongestion of the corridor and restoration of free movement.

Umahi urged motorists to exercise patience and caution during the holiday rush, assuring Nigerians of the Federal Government’s commitment to safe and efficient road transportation.
