The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Niger State has been hit by fresh defections ahead of the 2027 general elections, with several members resigning across wards and local government areas.

Party sources said the defectors, including grassroots members and local leaders, cited internal wrangling, unresolved leadership disputes and alleged marginalisation within the state chapter.

The development comes as the PDP at the national level grapples with internal crises and defections. In Niger State, the party has struggled with factional disputes since the 2023 elections.

Some of the defectors reportedly joined rival parties, while others withdrew from active politics.

The state PDP leadership is yet to officially comment, but insiders described the exits as a setback to 2027 preparations.

Analysts warn that continued internal divisions could weaken the party’s chances in the next general election.
