The Federal Government has announced that newly appointed Nigerian ambassadors will assume duty in their host countries in 2026.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this on Monday during an end-of-year press briefing in Abuja, noting that the deployment will follow the clearance and confirmation of nominees by the National Assembly.
Idris said the decision comes after months of public calls for diplomatic postings, adding that outstanding formalities in the process will be completed in 2026.
He explained that the postings are aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s bilateral relations, boosting global visibility and deepening strategic engagements abroad.
President Bola Tinubu had earlier forwarded the names of ambassadorial nominees to the Senate, ending a prolonged period without permanent envoys in several diplomatic missions.
