Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has commended President Bola Tinubu for issuing an executive order aimed at stopping the diversion of local government funds by some state governments.
Speaking on Monday, Kwankwaso described the move as a decisive step toward enforcing financial autonomy for local councils and ensuring statutory allocations reach the grassroots as intended.
The former Kano State governor said the directive reflects the President’s commitment to accountability and improved service delivery, noting that stronger local governments would reduce financial mismanagement and drive development.
President Tinubu had earlier warned that an executive order might be necessary to enforce the Supreme Court judgment mandating direct allocation of funds to local governments.
While supporters say the order will boost transparency, some state officials have expressed concerns over its implementation.
