The National Vice Chairman (South-East) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ijeoma Arodiogbu, and former spokesman to ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Segun Sowunmi, have criticised the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), over claims that Nigeria is drifting toward a one-party state.
BOSAN had warned that the country’s federal system was under threat due to the growing dominance of the APC, which currently controls at least 26 states, amid rising defections from opposition parties.
Speaking separately to PUNCH Online, Arodiogbu described the claim as misplaced, arguing that political competition naturally produces winners and losers.
He said the APC’s growth reflects public support for President Bola Tinubu’s policies, recalling that similar defections occurred during the dominance of the PDP in the early years of the Fourth Republic.
Sowunmi also dismissed fears of a one-party agenda, urging the senior advocates to focus on challenges within the legal profession.
He said opposition parties should address their internal problems rather than blaming the ruling party, stressing that electoral outcomes are determined only at the polls.
