A rival faction of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), in Kano State has rejected the outcome of the party’s national convention held in Abuja, describing the exercise as illegal and vowing not to recognise its decisions.

The factional chairman, Senator Mas’ud Doguwa, said on Sunday that the convention organised by the Kwankwaso-led faction violated due process and ignored ongoing court cases, making its outcomes invalid.

Doguwa said his faction would not endorse any party activity conducted in defiance of subsisting legal processes, stressing that leadership must emerge through lawful and inclusive procedures.

He also faulted the convention for what he described as exclusion of key stakeholders, arguing that it was a factional gathering rather than a true national convention.

He called for reconciliation within the party before any credible convention could be held, warning that imposing leadership would only deepen internal divisions.

Doguwa also dismissed claims that his faction was backing any aspirant ahead of the 2027 elections, including the Kano governorship race.

The Abuja convention, held on Saturday, saw the Kwankwaso-led faction re-elect Ahmed Ajuji as National Chairman and return Dipo Olayoku as National Secretary, alongside other members of the National Working Committee, under the supervision of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

However, Doguwa insisted that without broad-based inclusion and respect for the rule of law, the convention’s outcomes would continue to face resistance within the party.
