The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has deployed additional personnel and tow trucks along the Abuja-Lokoja highway to ease severe traffic congestion that has left motorists stranded for days ahead of Christmas.

In a statement on Sunday, FRSC spokesperson Olusegun Ogungbemide said the deployment followed a directive by Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed to decongest the road and promptly remove broken-down vehicles and other obstructions.

The FRSC attributed the gridlock to heavy festive traffic, ongoing construction at several points along the route, and poor driving behaviour.

Ogungbemide said motorists driving against traffic and other acts of impatience have worsened the congestion.

He urged road users to cooperate with officers on duty and obey traffic rules to improve traffic flow and ensure safety.

The intervention comes amid reports that the congestion on the Lokoja–Abuja corridor has persisted for about three days, with some motorists stranded since Saturday.
