The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Police Command has deployed 2,202 personnel, including Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), units, to ensure security during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The Commissioner of Police, Miller G. Dantawaye, disclosed this during a press briefing, saying the proactive deployment is aimed at guaranteeing a peaceful and hitch-free festive period for residents and visitors.

According to him, officers have been strategically stationed at places of worship, recreational and event centres, major highways, motor parks and other public spaces across the FCT.

Dantawaye said the operation is supported by increased visibility policing and intelligence-led patrols, with special attention on identified black spots, uncompleted buildings and shanties that could be exploited by criminal elements.

He added that EOD units have also been deployed to conduct routine security sweeps at churches and other public gathering points, in line with directives of the Inspector-General of Police.

The police commissioner warned that the use of fireworks, firecrackers, bangers, knockouts or any similar explosive devices remains prohibited within the FCT.

He urged residents to remain law-abiding and vigilant, and to promptly report suspicious persons, movements or objects to the nearest police station or through the FCT Police Command’s emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08028940883.
