Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has described his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a natural progression, saying he was never fully active in the PDP.
Speaking with journalists at the APC national secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, Fubara said his time in the PDP was largely nominal, stressing that he merely observed party affairs without active involvement.
“If I’m being honest, was I really in the PDP? I wasn’t. Most of what I suffered during the crisis was imposed by the party,” he said. “I was not inside the house; I was on the balcony, watching.”
The governor described his move to the APC as an easy decision, noting that he had always been progressive-minded.
“I may be new in the progressive family, but I have always been progressive at heart,” he said, pledging to foster unity and strengthen the party in Rivers State.
Fubara added that his defection was also a show of appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and an opportunity to work with other progressives to advance development in the state and the country.
