The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has intensified road safety sensitisation across six major traffic corridors nationwide ahead of the Yuletide.
FRSC Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, disclosed this in a statement issued Tuesday by the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide.
He said the campaign targets routes with heavy festive traffic, including the Abuja City Gate-Airport Road-Giri-Kubwa-AYA, Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria, Abuja-Lokoja-Zariagi, Benin-Asaba-Awka, Shagamu-Ijebu Ode-Ore-Benin, and Lagos-Ibadan-Egbeda corridors.
Mohammed noted that the routes, alongside about 50 others nationwide, are critical arteries that experience increased vehicular movement during the festive season.
He said the campaign aims to address human and environmental factors responsible for crashes, including speeding, wrongful overtaking, drunk driving, lane indiscipline, adverse weather and disregard for traffic signs.
Describing traffic rules as life-saving safeguards, the Corps Marshal urged motorists to plan journeys properly, obey speed limits, avoid night travel where possible and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, stressing that road crashes are predictable outcomes of unsafe driving choices.
